UPDATE (3:41 PM): According to reports, there is no tear in Tannehill’s knee. There’s still no timetable for Tannehill’s return, which could be in mere days.
Former Big Spring and Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill has suffered a non-contact injury during a Dolphins preseason practice, according to the Palm Beach Post.
Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill goes down on a scramble. Non-contact. Leaving the field now.
Tannehill’s 67% completion rate was good enough to get the Dolphins to a 9-5 record before his injury, and the team went 2-1 without him to finish off the regular season. They drew Steelers in the Wild Card round, an unenviable draw, and their season ended after a 30-12 loss.
Alright, everyone take a deep breath and try not to get too worked up – this could open the door for a guy like Colin Kaepernick or Jay Cutler to come out of retirement to at least add depth to the Dolphins’ roster. Kaepernick himself is unlikely, mostly because of this incident, but it’s not outside of the realm of possibility. The likely starter if Tannehill can’t go right now is Matt Moore, and the Dolphins definitely can’t hope to excel as much as they did last year with Moore at the helm.
