San Angelo Central Holds Off Abilene High in 100th Meeting

San Angelo Central opened the 2026 season with a memorable 28-23 win over Abilene High in the 100th all-time meeting between the two programs.

The Bobcats built a 14-3 halftime lead and stretched it to 21-3 in the third quarter after blocking an Abilene punt. The No. 18 Eagles made a late fourth-quarter push, but Central held on at San Angelo Stadium.

Quarterback Micah Smith led the way, completing 15 of 22 passes for 184 yards and two touchdowns while adding a rushing score. Jesse Smith finished with five catches for 97 yards, while Tucker Beaty caught a seven-yard touchdown pass.

The win snapped Central’s three-game losing streak against Abilene and gave the Bobcats a 48-47-5 edge in the all-time series.
