Clark Key Players and Storylines

Clark started last season 6-0, but lost its final four games, a skid that resulted in the Cougars missing the playoffs for the first time in three years.

They also had to deal with significant roster turnover during the offseason, returning just eight starters from last year’s team.

Offensively, the bad news is they have to replace the majority of their offensive line and their quarterback.

The good news? Their two prolific playmakers on that side of the ball return.

Running back Xavier Canavis (1,124 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns) has 4.4 speed to go along with his great vision, while receiver Elisha Johnson (1,093 receiving yards and seven touchdowns) is a dynamic player with the football in his hands. Both earned first team all-district honors in 2025.

Defensively, it will all start in the trenches for the Cougars with the speed and quickness of defensive tackle Ezekiel Surita (60 tackles, 27 TFLs) and the edge presence of Ayden O’Donnell (26 tackles, 10 TFLs).

On the back end, look for senior defensive back Eli Abad (41 tackles) to step up after the Cougars lost their leading tackler from a year ago to the private school ranks.

There’s holes to fill, but the Cougars should be able to stay in a lot of games this year with their two gamebreakers on offense. They’ll hope to gel quickly with the expectation of returning to the playoffs after last year’s blip.
