East Central Key Players and Storylines
After a 9-4 season in 2024, East Central slumped to a 3-7 finish a year ago. However, two of their district losses came in overtime. Win those games and the Hornets would have earned a playoff berth.
They do have some holes to fill after losing 15 starters, but they enter 2026 with plenty of team speed. That includes the receivers room where playmaker Keyontrae Davis (124 receiving yards and two touchdowns) is ready to step up alongside Raymond Gloria, who had the versatility to star at safety (54 tackles) and play some quarterback last year. Quarterback, though, is no longer a need for the Hornets with the addition of senior Sloan Guillory, who threw for 1,695 yards at San Antonio Christian in 2025.

Defensively, the Hornets have a strong core returning from a year ago. Linebacker Trumaine Ellison can make plays sideline-to-sideline. In front of him, defensive ends Jordan Richardson and Tymere Ellison will be disruptors off the edge. On the back end, head coach Joe Hubbard is expecting big things from safety David Woodberry.
The addition of Guillory along with a good group of returners on defense is a combination that will be key to East Central’s success. Hubbard expects the Hornets to take a step forward this year and re-establish themselves as a playoff contender in District 27-6A.
