Pieper Key Players and Storylines

Pieper hit a home run over the offseason, nabbing Eddie Salas to take over the program after Nick Rogers stepped down. Salas spent the last eight years at Harlan, leading the Hawks to the playoffs every single year.

He’ll hope to have similar success to a Pieper program that is jumping up to 6A for the first time in its sixth varsity season. The Warriors did graduate “a great senior class,” so their pipeline will be tested this year.

Their passing attack will still be a threat with returning quarterback Chase Lyons (1,787 passing yards and 15 touchdowns) and playmaking receiver Carson LaCombe (854 receiving yards and nine touchdowns), who is coming off a breakout sophomore season. Versatile 6’3”, 275-pound lineman JP Danklefs will be tasked with paving the way for the Pieper rushing attack.

Defensively, linebacker Laiton Springer (129 tackles, nine TFLs) is a three-year starter who can do it all after leading the Warriors in tackles and tackles for loss last season. Defensive lineman Jax Potts is Pieper’s only other returning starter on defense and is a “tone-setter” for the defense. Among the players expected to take on a bigger role this year is linebacker Rhyder Allison-Butler, who’s already attracting looks from the Division I level.

When Pieper jumped to 5A Division I in 2024, the Warriors went 11-1 and won their district title. They’ll look to replicate that success this time around as they eye a district title in their first 6A season.
