Scott Hermes will take over the Round Rock McNeil Mavericks football program in 2020.
The hire was announced on the school’s Twitter page on Thursday.
Hermes is a 17-year coaching veteran, including serving as Austin Vandegrift’s defensive coordinator the last five years. He replaces Howard McMahan who resigned after six seasons as Mavs head coach to take a position as the Round Rock ISD’s assistant athletic director.
During Hermes’ tenure at Vandegrift, the defensive coordinator coached in 13 playoff games. The Vipers defense allowed just 14 points per game, posted two shutouts and and held seven opponents to 14 points or fewer.
Hermes has also coached at Sanger.
McNeil posted a 3-6 record in 2019, including a 2-6 mark in District 13-6A.
