Last night, Shallowater announced that it hired former Canyon Athletic Director Bryan Wood as its new head football coach.

Wood replaces Chad Terry, who was reassigned following a 2-9 campaign in 2016.
Shallowater’s schedule was very difficult. They had Levelland, Idalou, and Greenwood (Midland), Lubbock High, and Lubbock Estacado on their schedule before entering a district filled with the likes of Muleshoe and Littlefield. The Mustangs definitely struggled in a big way, but close losses against good teams on a difficult schedule mean that all is not lost.
Wood has coached at Pampa, Randall, and Sunray before, and has a combined record of 149-58 at those schools. He spoke with KLBK Lubbock after the hire, stating, “anytime you can be part of a program that’s got some tradition and a community that’s very supportive like this one appears to be it’s something you want to be a part of.”
