Pasadena South Houston has lost it’s first four games of the season. They’re located smack dab in the middle of one of the most desolate sectors of Houston.
They’ve only had one home game, and they lost 31-7 to Galena Park. Their only score in the game came in the second quarter. They had more safeties (two) than touchdowns. They averaged 1.88 yards per rushing attempt on 29 carries.
Their two road games came against two burgeoning schools. The Trojans’ first game was a 41-17 blowout at Clear Creek High School in League City. They had 70 total yards and completed five passes for 36 yards. They averaged 1.13 rushing yards on 30 carries for 34 yards. They played a road game against Clear Brook High School in Friendswood and that was an even bigger struggle. This time the Trojans had 209 total yards, but they allowed 500 total yards to the Wolverines.
Their last game was a road trip to Rosenberg against the Terry Rangers. Terry is a 5A school.  The Trojans lost 41-21. They allowed 34 points in the first half. They have compiled 613 total yards in four games.
Pasadena represents the city of Pasadena on the outskirts. They have been just as impressive in their losses as the Trojans. They faced Galena Park in their first game and they lost 34-14. They allowed 528 total yards to the Yellowjackets.
The Eagles were competitive in their second game against Chavez, and actually outgained them in total yards 376 to 270 for the Lobos. However, they had only 81 passing yards and completed 34 percent of their passes. They lost that game 41-24.
The Eagles’ recent game was Sept. 9 against the Bellaire Cardinals and they got drubbed 41-6. The Cardinals outgained them in total yards 465 to 161 and they were limited to 97 passing yards.
Both of these teams of District 22-6A will face each other 6 PM, Thursday at Veterans Memorial. It will be the first district game for each team. The Eagles and Trojans have won zero games combined versus seven losses. They have combined for 95 points scored and they have yielded 263 points. That is an average of 37 points allowed per game.
They have done everything possible and then some to be irrelevant this year, and yet, they’re still in the hunt for a district title. The Eagles, despite their three losses, are only one loss behind first place. The Trojans with their four losses are only two losses behind first place.
In the district standings, there’s a three-way tie for first. La Porte, Deer Park and Pasadena Memorial are 2-2. If all three schools lose two games and the Trojans win two games, they would be tied for first place. These first place teams don’t exactly inspire confidence either. Deer Park has a negative point differential of 11. Pasadena Memorial has a point differential of 11 and La Porte has a point differential of 30. These three teams have been winning, but not in a dominating fashion. Unlike college or the NFL where the talent gap narrows, it’s difficult in high school football if you don’t have talent. However, in the cases of Pasadena and Pasadena South Houston, it’s possible that the worst-case scenario has already passed them by. Somebody has to win this game.
