On Friday evening, the Scots and Dragons battled it out in round three, with both teams looking to advance to the Region finals of the playoffs.

Parker Thompson started out slow and never recovered, completing 14 of 32 passes for 189 yards and 1 touchdown. Thompson tried to help the ground game but ended up rushing for only 24 yards. He was able to connect with Canon Spackman for 57 yards on 5 receptions, scoring once, Brian Rapp 2 times for 56 yards, and Charles Schneider, who also had 2 receptions that netted him 50 yards. Thompson also connected with Benton Owens on a 14-yard reception for a touchdown, and Wilson Axley, whose 4 receptions added 36 yards to the passing yardage total. The Scots tried moving the ball on the ground as Wilson Axley rushed for 77 yards on 5 carries, and Keller Holmes rushed for 26 yards on 9 carries.

The Dragons’ running game was hot as running back Davis Penn rushed for 210 yards on 14 carries, scoring 3 times, and Riley Wormley rushed for 125 yards on 10 carries, scoring once. With explosiveness on the ground, the Dragons also moved the ball through the air as Graham Knowles completed 9 of 16 passes for 132 yards. Knowles connected with Riley Wormley 2 times for 40 yards, Brock Boyd 4 times for 38 yards and a touchdown, and Jack Van Dorselear, who hauled in a 33-yard receiving touchdown.

The Dragons win easily, 45-14.

Next week, the Dragons will continue their playoff campaign as they take on Byron Nelson, who is undefeated. Byron Nelson defeated Coppell 52-45 in a back-and-forth 3rd round matchup. The neutral site for next week’s round 4 game has yet to be determined.
