On Thursday night, the Frenship Tigers took on the Southlake Carroll Dragons in the second round of the playoffs.
Frenship Tigers
Landon Hutcheson kept the same plan he had all season, which was to move the ball through the air as he completed 26 of 47 passes for 280 yards, throwing for one touchdown. Hutcheson’s main connection on the night was Chase Campbell, who hauled in 16 receptions for 184 yards. Hutcheson also connected with Leyton Stone who caught 4 passes for 49 yards and a touchdown, and Brooks Roberson who caught 4 passes for 44 yards. Even though they had momentum through the air, the Tigers struggled on the ground as Jaden Tackett rushed for 17 yards on 4 carries scoring once, and Luke Cortez rushed for only 16 yards on 4 touches.
Southlake Carroll Dragons
The Dragons started hot and never stopped as quarterback Graham Knowles completed 20 of 21 passes for 223 yards. Knowles connected with Clayton Wayland who caught 8 passes for 115 yards, Brock Boyd who had 5 receptions for 50 yards, and Christian Glenn who had 4 catches for 33 yards. Even though Knowles was almost perfect through the air, the Dragons found scoring success on the ground as Riley Wormley rushed for 153 yards on 6 carries, scoring 4 touchdowns. Davis Penn scored 3 touchdowns himself as he rushed for 51 yards on 7 touches, and Carter Lind gained 18 yards on his 2 carries.
Southlake ends Frenship’s season 49-14.
Next week, Southlake will take on Highland Park at Choctaw Stadium in Arlington in round 3 of the playoffs. The Scots are coming off a last second 22-21 field goal win over McKinney, which was partially deflected by a McKinney defender, but still managed to find its way through the uprights.
