Spring Westfield Mustangs Win Season Opener

The Spring Westfield Mustangs are coming off of a 13-2 season in which they made it to the state semifinals.  With Quarterback QB Cardell Williams back, who threw for 2,800 yards and 30 touchdowns last year back to lead the offense, the Mustangs are looking to make it beyond the semifinals this year.  They got the season off to a good start with a win, though it was a bit closer than expected.

The Mustangs beat the Fort Bend Hightower Hurricanes 38-28.   The Hurricanes gave Spring Westfield a battle.  In the end, Williams was too much for Fort Bend Hightower to contain.  The two big plays in the game were Williams touchdown passes to wide receiver Torian Riggs. Riggs looks like he will be a playmaker to watch this season.

Spring Westfield, under Head Coach Matt Meekins, the Mustangs are 25-4 over the past two seasons. They’re looking to make it to their school’s second title game.  They should be favorites in each of their remaining 7 games and then be on their way to the playoffs.  Their next game is against Aldine Davis.  Fort Bend Hightower will look to get their first win of the season Friday against The Woodlands.
