Sweetwater Mustangs vs Lubbock Estacado Matadors Quick Recap

On Friday night, Estacado looked to bounce back as they traveled to take on the Sweetwater Mustangs.

The Matadors started off hot, as Nate Orta forced a Mustang fumble to start the game, giving Matador running back Bobby Ross Jr his first score. Matador Quarterback DJ Johnson connected with Devoryea Boyd for a 54-yard touchdown pass, but Sweetwater quickly responded, as Mustangs Quarterback Jade Rodriguez connected with Uriah Martines for a 10-yard touchdown pass. Matador Bobby Ross Jr. broke free for a 17-yard touchdown run, after Deeondric Green hauled in a 39-yard pass from DJ Johnson earlier in the drive.

Matador Ross Jr. started the 2nd half strong, as he notched a 23-yard rushing touchdown to extend the Matador lead. DJ Johnson worked his Matador receivers down the field, finishing the drive by connecting on a 21-yard touchdown pass to Cedric Ross. The Matadors listed another touchdown, as Ross Jr. barreled over defenders for a 45-yard score.

Sweetwater was able to get into the endzone one more time, as the Mustangs worked their way down the field, ending with Uriah Martines in the endzone. Martines ended up with 102 rushing yards on the night. Estacado was able to run out the clock to finish the game, after Mehki Williams recovered a fumble that was forced by a miscommunication by the Mustang offense.
