The Texas High School Football Hall of Fame has announced its 2024 Class. The new class will be recognized and inducted on May 18th at the Texas Sports Hall of Fame in Waco, Texas. The event is private and not open to the public or media.

Here are this year’s local standouts that will make the illustrious roster:

Riley Odoms

(West Oso, TE)

Riley Odoms was a four-time Pro Bowlers, playing the entirety of his professional career with the Denver Broncos. A Luling native, Odoms attended West Oso in Corpus Christi, where he competed primarily at wide receiver. Because it was a smaller classification, he also played running back, quarterback, and middle linebacker.

He later competed at the University of Houston, becoming one of three All-American tight ends with 45 catches for 730 yards.

Brent Duhon

(Thomas Jefferson, WR)

Competing with Texas high school football coaching standout Todd Doge in Port Arthur, both led Thomas Jefferson to a 14-1 record and a berth in the Class 5A title game in his senior year.

They eventually lost to Permian in a 28-19 decision in the 1980 title game. In that season, Duhon pulled in 1,380 yards and 16 TDs.

Cory Redding

(North Shore, DT)

Born and raised in Houston, Redding was named USA Today’s Defensive Player of the Year in his senior season, as well as consensus All-American honors. Off the gridiron, he also excelled in track and field, winning the Class 5A title in discus during back-to-back years.

He later excelled with the Texas Longhorns as an All-American defensive end from 1999-2002, logging 57 tackles for loss—the fourth most in school history. He played in the NFL for over a decade.

Cedric Benson

(Midland Lee, RB)

Benson was a Doak Walker Award winner and All-American for the Texas Longhorns from 2001-04, becoming just one of ten players to scramble for. He becameds in each of his first four seasons.

With Midland Lee, Benson amassed 8,423 rushing yards and 127 touchdowns.

Tim Buchanan

(Aledo, Coach)

Legendary Aledo Bearcats, head football coach, retired in January 2023, following 30 years at the school. An eight-time state title is only one behind the UIL 11-man record shared by the late Gordon Wood and Carthage’s Scott Surratt. Over three decades, coach Buchanan amassed a 281-58-3 record.

John Wilkins

(Odessa Permian, Coach)

The longtime Odessan coached the Panthers for over a decade, taking the team to state titles in 1980 and 1984. Overall, he claimed a record of 148-16-6, making him the third-winningest coach in Texas high school football history.

Robert Lee Brown

(PVIL Hall of Honor Chairman, Dave Campbell Contributor to the Game)

The Prairie View Interscholastic League (PVIL) was the governing body for academics during the state’s segregationist era. During its 50-year existence, the PVIL produced numerous outstanding coaches and athletes
