NFC 2024 Pro Bowlers & Their Connection to Texas High School Football

The NFL announced its complete rosters for the 2024 Pro Bowl Games. Of course, Lone Star State talent was in abundance. Here are the honored athletes in the NFC, and their ties to Texas high school football:

Matthew Stafford, Los Angeles Rams, QB

The 2021 Super Bowl victor was a high school standout, leading Highland Park to a 15-0 record and the UIL 4A Division I state championship in 2005. His Dallas alma mater has won more games than any other in Texas high school football history.

Last year, Stafford’s number was retired by Highland Park, as well as induction in the Texas Sports Hall of Fame.

Mike Evans, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, WR

Mike Evans led the NFL in touchdown receptions, earning him his fifth Pro Bowl selection. The likely Hall of Famer boasted 13 touchdown receptions and 1,233 receiving yards on 76 receptions.

As a senior with Galveston Ball, Evans received second-team District 24-4A honors after making 25 receptions for 648 yards and seven touchdowns.

Trent Williams, San Francisco 49ers, OT

Trent Williams earned his 11th selection to the Pro Bowl in his 13-year career. The selection total ties Anthony Muñoz, Jonathan Ogden, and Willie Roaf for the most by an offensive tackle in NFL history.

Born and raised in Longview, Williams played for the Lobos high school football team, where he was teammates with Malcolm Kelly, Chris Ivory, and Robert Henson. He was an unanimous first-team all-district selection as a senior.

Lane Johnson, Philadelphia Eagles, OT

One of six Philadelphia Eagles named to the Pro Bowl, Lane Johnson has now made back-to-back all-star appearances.

As a born and raised athlete at Groveton, Johnson actually competed as a quarterback, nabbing honorable mention All-state selection at the position. It wasn’t until his junior season at Oklahoma that he switched to a lineman role.
