Longtime Texas High head coach Barry Norton is moving to the other side of the state line. Norton has been new named the new head coach and athletic director at crosstown rival Arkansas High School in Texarkana, Arkansas. The move was first reported by David Smoak.
Norton spent 18 seasons as the head coach of the Tigers, compiling a record of 152-55-1. The Tigers had made the playoffs in all but one of Norton’s 18 seasons and won a state championship back in 2002.
The Tigers finished 10-0 during the regular season in 2016, but were upset in the bi-district round of the 5A Division II playoffs by West Mesquite.
According to the Texarkana Gazette, Norton takes over a program that has finished .500 or better just twice in the past decade. The report also says there will be a press conference on Wednesday morning introducing Norton as the new head coach of the Razorbacks.
