From rivalry heroics to performances destined for the record books, it was another busy week in college football in week 7 for former Lone Star State stars.
Here are the former Texas high school football players who made their mark this past weekend.
Texas DB Malik Muhammad (South Oak Cliff) and WR Ryan Niblett (Aldine Eisenhower)
For the first time since 2008-09, Texas went back-to-back in the Red River Rivalry with a 23-6 win over Oklahoma on Saturday. The Horns have Malik Muhammad and Niblett to thank.
Muhammad had two interceptions, including one in the end zone with just seconds left in the first half that like cost Oklahoma three points. It was an extra sweet day for Muhammad after he missed Texas’ game against Florida due to injury.
“I was just trying to go out there and play my game. I felt like I let my team down last week getting injured and not playing,” Muhammad said. “I just wanted to come in here this week and put my best game on display.”
After Muhammad’s first half heroics, it was Ryan Niblett that dropped the hammer after halftime. The sophomore had a 75-yard punt return touchdown to push Texas’ lead to two scores. It was his first touchdown since taking over return duties for Texas.

Texas is now 4-2 and 1-1 in SEC play. The Longhorns will now look to keep the momentum from Saturday going when they hit the road to face Kentucky this upcoming weekend.
Lamar QB Aiden McCown (Rusk)
Aiden McCown has quite the bloodlines as the son of former NFL quarterback Josh McCown. He showed off his clutch genes on Saturday. With just three seconds left, he hit Kyndon Fuslier for a five-yard touchdown for a go-ahead touchdown against East Texas A&M.

The Cardinals would add a fumble return touchdown on the final play to seal the 33-23 victory.
McCown threw for a career-high 285 yards, and he has helped lead Lamar to a 5-1 start for the first time since 1974, according to Lamar’s athletic communications department.
The Cardinals will look to keep flying high in the Southland when they host UT Rio Grande this Saturday.
Northwestern QB Preston Stone (Parish Episcopal)
The upset of the weekend belonged to the Northwestern Wildcats. They knocked off Penn State 22-21, a win that ended the James Franklin era in State College.
A former Parish Episcopal quarterback was at the helm for the Wildcats. Quarterback Preston Stone didn’t light the world on fire, but he did what he needed to do. He completed 17 of his 26 passes for 163 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions. That touchdown came on a perfectly delivered 29-yard touchdown pass to Griffin Wilde in the second quarter.

Stone transferred in from SMU over the offseason, and Northwestern stuck by him even when he threw for four interceptions in a season-opening loss to Tulane.
That defeat though is now just a distant memory. Northwestern is now 4-2 on the season. The Wildcats will look to build off this big win when they return home this weekend for a visit from Purdue.
Wyoming QB Kaden Anderson (Southlake Carroll)
Wyoming rallied from a 14-point fourth quarter deficit to knock off San Jose State 35-28 on Saturday. A season-high in passing yardage from Southlake Carroll grad Kaden Anderson was one of the keys to that comeback.
Anderson threw for 304 yards and two touchdowns. His 45-yard touchdown to Charlie Coenen helped tie the game at 28 with just 2:44 left. Then on the ensuing drive, Anderson had a 52-yard connection to Samuel Harris that eventually set up Terron Kellman’s 28-yard, game-winning touchdown run.
This win was a big one to snap a three-game losing streak for the Cowboys. They are now 3-3 on the year and will look to get back above that .500 mark when they travel to Air Force on Saturday.
Jacksonville State RB Cam Cook (Stony Point)
Back in his home state, Jacksonville State running back Cam Cook made himself right at home. He racked up 218 yards and two touchdowns in Jacksonville State’s 29-27 win over Sam Houston State last Thursday.
It was a new career high in rushing yardage for Cook, who transferred in from TCU over the offseason. So far, it has been a perfect fit. Cook leads the nation in rushing yardage with 832 yards through seven weeks.
Jacksonville State is now 2-0 in Conference USA. The Gamecocks are in midweek action again this week with a home date against Delaware on Wednesday.
Texas Tech RB Cameron Dickey (Austin Crockett)
Cameron Dickey was a standout quarterback at Austin Crockett. He’s transitioned to the running back position at the college level, and it turns out, he’s a stud there too.
On Saturday, Dickey had his breakout moment. He carried the ball 21 times for 263 yards and two touchdowns. The first touchdown came on a 71-yard run on Texas Tech’s first offensive play of the game before he added a 55-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.

According to Texas Tech’s athletic communications, he became the first Red Raider running back to eclipse 200 rushing yards since 2015.
The Red Raiders are now 6-0 and are now the seventh-ranked team in the country. They’ve got a big game this weekend as they face defending Big 12 champion Arizona State in Tempe.
Houston Christian RB Xai’Shaun Edwards (Clear Springs)
Clear Springs grad Xai’Shun Edwards set the tone on Saturday when he broke off a 52-yard touchdown run on Houston Christian’s first possession.
It was beginning of a big day for the Huskies running back as he carried the ball 30 times for 214 yards and two touchdowns on Saturday. Those two scores helped propel Houston Christian past Northwestern State 20-17.

Edwards was so close to etching his name into Houston Christian’s record books. He came up just four yards short of Houston Christian’s single game record. Still, he’s now at 625 rushing yards just six games into the seasons. That’s already good for fifth on Houston Christian’s single season all-time rushing yard leaders, according to their athletic communications department.
The Huskies are now 2-4 on the season and 1-2 in the Southland. They will be heading east this Saturday to face McNeese State on Saturday.
BYU RB LJ Martin (Canutillo)
Canutillo grad LJ Martin had a 28-touchdown run to open the scoring for BYU on Saturday and went on to finish with 162 yards on 25 carries in BYU’s 33-27 double overtime victory at Arizona.
It was a career high in rushing yardage for Martin, and the third time he’s eclipsed the century mark this year. For his efforts, Martin was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.
BYU improved to a perfect 6-0 on the season with the win. The Cougars will have a massive ranked Holy War showdown this Saturday when they welcome #23 Utah into Provo.
Colorado WR Joseph Williams (Mansfield Summit)
Colorado pulled off an upset this weekend by knocking off #22 Iowa State 24-17 on Saturday. Mansfield Summit grad Joseph Williams had a three-yard touchdown catch late in the third quarter that gave the Buffaloes a 21-17 lead they wouldn’t relinquish.
That was far from the only big snag Williams made in this one. He finished with eight catches for 128 yards.

Williams transferred in from Tulsa over the offseason, and it appears he’s beginning to settle in. This was his first game with 100+ receiving yards with the Buffaloes this season, and the most receiving yards a Buffalo receiver has had in a single game this year.
Colorado is now 3-4 and 1-3 in Big 12. They’ll have a week to regroup on their bye before heading to Utah on October 25.
