Texas School Cancels Football and Fall Sports Due to COVID-19

| |

Another Texas High School has canceled all of its fall sports, including football.

Rio Hondo ISD has decided to cancel all of its fall sports.  The Rio Hondo Bobcats football team was set to kick off their season on September 25th, at home, against Raymondville.  The Bobcats become the second school in the Rio Grande Valley to cancel their fall sports.

Hidalgo County has been hit particularly hard by COVID-19 with nearly 1,500 deaths and approaching 60,000 cases.  The county alone makes up for about 8% of the total number of cases in Texas.  The numbers have been trending down, significantly so, but Rio Hondo ISD does not feel it is yet safe to have fall sports.  They have a tentative plan to restart in-person classes on November 2 and still hope to play spring sports.
