Games on Friday nights didn’t draw every citizen in town, and the stadium wasn’t gigantic. His school, Robert G. Cole, was a small facility in Fort Sam Houston. Capacity was a modest 1,200.
But there was one part of the aura of Texas high school football that was reality: the fervor. No matter how small the stadiums were, they were always packed. The interest among the students was serious.
