Football season is back in the Lone Star State and with another year approaching, TexasHSFootball is proud to be covering lots of great action on the gridiron. With that said, we’re excited to announce that our first Game of The Week for 2017 is the matchup between the Cedar Hill Longhorns and the Allen Eagles as part of the Tom Landry Classic.
Cedar Hill enters the 2017 season with a new but familiar face in charge as Carlos Lynn comes over from Arlington Seguin to lead the Longhorns. Lynn previously was a defensive coordinator under former head coach Joey McGuire and was on staff for their last state title back in 2006.
The Longhorns will have plenty of playmakers to turn to in this matchup that include wide receiver/running back Joshua Fleeks and running back Cameron Fleming on offense and defensive back Donavann Collins and tackle Shabazz Dotson.
On the other sideline, the Allen Eagles look to get back to the state title game after falling just short in the state semifinals in 2016. Head coach Terry Gambill leads his squad that will have junior quarterback Grant Tisdale taking the reins from Mitchell Jonke as the signal caller. While Tisdale is starting his first game, he will have plenty of weapons to turn to.
Running back Brock Sturges is back after a breakout 2016 season that saw him rush for over 1,100 yards. He’ll complement a talented receiving core led by junior Theo Wease and senior Carson Scheckler.
The Eagles defense will also have a number of playmakers to turn to, particularly in the secondary led by Jevon Jones. With Allen being the largest high school in the state, the front seven should be very deep as well.
It’s going to be a fantastic matchup at Allen’s Eagle Stadium on Friday night. The game kicks off at 7:30 pm.
