The Best Texas High School Football Recruits in 4A for 2022

Guest Post by: Elizabeth Reed

High school football has grown so much over the years. We now have national networks like ESPN and FOX Sports investing time and resources on high school broadcasts as they would for college football. As a result of its upgraded profile, we’ve also seen college scouts devote more time to recruiting high school players.

Texas has produced the finest high school football players who ended up becoming elite professionals later on in their careers. One such example is the hottest NFL player, quarterback Jalen Hurts, who spent his high school years as a member of the Channelview American Football Team before playing college football in Alabama.

Miami Dolphins Wide receiver Jaylen Waddle, an alumnus of Episcopal High School, is another great example. He is among the top 100 NFL players in 2022.

With that being said, let’s have a look at some of the most sought after High School prospects in Texas 4A in 2022:

Kobe Black (Top-Rated)

High school: Waco Connally High School, Waco, TX

Class: 24

Position: CB

Black is already growing into a known high school football household name. Prominent sports magazines like 247Sports named him the top high school prospect in all of Texas for the 2024 class. He’s already been offered scholarships from some of college football’s biggest schools, including Notre Dame, University of Southern California (USC), Baylor, Texas A&M, Louisiana State University (LSU), and OKC State.

Drelon Miller (Top Underclassman)

Position: WR

According to ESPN, Miller is currently ranked at 16 on the 2024 top Texas recruits list. He was recently named 409Sports Athlete of the Week after recording 11 TDs, 259 rushing yards, and 631 receiving yards in just five games.

He has already received offers from Baylor, Georgia, Oklahoma, Texas, and Oregon.

Rueben Owens II (MVP)

High School: El Campo High School, El Campo, TX.

Class: 23

Position: RB

Owens is rated a DCTF 5-star prospect, and led the state in running last year, and is the nation’s number 1 ranked rusher. Despite his resume, Owens opted to return to El Campo for another year, becoming the first player since 2018 to return to high school after leading all of Texas in rushing. He’s already a Louisville commit (verbally).
