The Top 5 Biggest Coaching Salaries In San Antonio
Coaches in San Antonio are getting paid! According to data compiled by the Express-News, nearly every head football coach in the Alamo City is earning more than $80,000 in the upcoming school year. Of the 64 football coaches on the salary list, 61 reached this benchmark, as per the UIL and Texas Education Agency.
Number one on the list was Sequin athletic director and head football coach Craig Dailey, pocketing $146,377; he was one of four coaches that made over $140,000, including Alamo Heights athletic director Ron Rittimann, New Braunfels Canyon’s Travis Bush, and Smithson Valley’s Larry Hill. South High School’s Ricky Lock rounded out the list.
An estimated 37 head football coaches made at least six figures last year—twice the amount in comparison to the 2020-21 season. Beyond coaching, roles at their respective schools is another contributing factor to pay. Several on the list are teachers; others are athletic director or serve other roles within athletics departments.
Here is a breakdown of the top five earners from the 2021-2022:

Total compensation: $127,812
Last season results: Lost to McAllen 21-0 in the Class 5A Division I Region IV are round.
4. Travis Bush, Canyon HS
Total compensation: $141,677
Last season results: Lost to Georgetown 21-10 in the first round of playoffs.
3. Ron Rittiman, Alamo Heights HS
Total compensation: $142,347
Last season results: Lost to Liberty Hill 37-32 in the Class 5A Division II regional contest.
2. Larry Hill, Smithson Valley HS
Total compensation: $143,541
Last season results: Lost to College Station 26-21 in the Class 5A Division I Region III championship.
1. Craig Dailey, Seguin High School
Total compensation: $146,377
Last season results: Lost to A&M Consolidated 35-20 in the first round of playoffs.
