Lewisville won its first three games on the field. Those victories no longer count in the standings.
A September 25 eligibility ruling against quarterback Laykon Brassfield has turned the Farmers’ nondistrict wins into forfeits. The District 5-6A Executive Committee voted 7-0 that the junior did not meet UIL residency requirements.
As a result, Lewisville loses its wins over Highland Park, Trophy Club Byron Nelson and Denton Ryan.
However, the Farmers answered that same night with a 40-7 victory over Flower Mound Marcus in the Battle of the Axe. With the forfeits applied, Lewisville stands 1-3 overall and 1-0 in district play.
Residency, Not Athletic Purposes
The committee made an important distinction in its ruling. In a separate 5-2 vote, members determined Brassfield did not move for athletic purposes.
Instead, the eligibility issue centered on addresses used to enroll children from the same family in two districts. Brassfield enrolled in Lewisville, while his younger siblings enrolled in Argyle ISD.
During the hearing, Brassfield’s father said he bought the Argyle house for the quarterback’s grandfather. He maintained that the family lived in Lewisville, first in an RV and later in an apartment.
What Comes Next for Brassfield
Before the ruling, Brassfield had thrown 14 touchdown passes with only one interception across three games. The transfer from Edmond North in Oklahoma also contributed two rushing touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Lewisville ISD said it is working with the UIL on guidance and next steps. Brassfield has indicated he plans to appeal. A residency waiver was also identified during the hearing as a possible path back to varsity competition.
For Lewisville, the forfeits affect the overall record but not the district standings. The Farmers have their first district victory, even as Brassfield seeks a way back onto the field.
