There was not much change in this week’s Top 25. Duncanville did move up to #4 with their 56-9 win over Waco. There may be the #1 or #2 team in the state, but having only played 2 games and been 1-1, we had them outside the top 5 last week. With a win over Mansfield, they could move up into the top 3. Westlake is still at #2. They did not play last week, but coming off of three shutouts in which they scored 56, 58 and 56, you can make a claim for them as having the best season so far.
Argyle remains in our top 20. Many people do not like seeing any teams outside of 6A in the Top 25, but at 8-0 and coming off of a 56-19 win and a 77-7 win the week before, we have them at #19.
Rockwall continues to be one of the toughest teams to rank. Many people had them in the Top 10 after their 44-42 win a few weeks ago over Southlake Carroll, but the 18-46 loss to Highland Park dropped them out of many of the top 25 lists. Their bounce-back 38-27 win has them climbing the rankings again and we have them at #17. They are favored in their remaining 5 regular seasons games and if they run the table, they’ll be a top 10 team heading into the playoffs.
Not in our Top 25 is Alvin Shadow Creek or Southlake Carroll. Both teams have Top 10, maybe even Top 5 in the state potential and both have a realistic chance to make it to the state championship games. However, with the Sharks at 1-2 and with the Dragons loss to Rockwall, we rewarded teams that have had better seasons so far. We do expect both teams will finish their regular seasons well within the Top 25.
