The Vandegrift Vipers secured their seventh consecutive district title Friday night with a decisive 35-6 win over Round Rock at Monroe Memorial Stadium. This victory capped a perfect 8-0 run in District 25-6A, solidifying Vandegrift’s dominance in the region.
Since joining this district in 2018, the Vipers have lost only one district game, a testament to the program’s consistency and growth under head coach Drew Sanders. Sanders, who started the Vipers program in 2008, said he “never expected” such success, but over the last decade, Vandegrift has become a powerhouse, regularly producing double-digit win seasons.
The game showcased Vandegrift’s balance and depth. Quarterback Miles Teodecki threw two touchdown passes, while running back Brendan Fournier added two rushing scores. The Vipers’ defense, which has allowed an average of just five points per game since Week 4, held Round Rock to under 60 yards in the first half, establishing a 28-0 lead by halftime. The second half was largely a formality, with the Vipers cruising to victory as they hoisted the district championship trophy for the seventh consecutive year.
Coach Sanders expressed pride in his team, saying, “Winning never gets old, especially this year.” With 15 starters lost from last season, including a new quarterback, offensive line, and several new coaches, the Vipers adapted and thrived, winning seven of their district games by at least 25 points. This victory was a testament to their resilience and dedication to “doing things the right way.”
Now 9-1, Vandegrift turns its attention to the Class 6A Division II playoffs. After last year’s heartbreaking first-round exit on a last-second field goal, the Vipers are eager to make a deep run, starting next week against Austin High at Monroe Memorial Stadium.
