War Eagles Get Win Over Spartans in Wild Thursday Battle

The Oak Ridge War Eagles and Stratford Spartans delivered a Thursday night classic at Tully Stadium. Oak Ridge struck first, but Stratford quickly answered, then added another score to grab a 13-7 first-quarter lead. Oak Ridge responded with two second-quarter touchdowns to carry a 21-13 advantage into halftime.

Momentum swung back and forth after the break. Stratford fought their way back, eventually taking a 25-22 lead in the fourth quarter behind a Gavin Guzman touchdown run. Oak Ridge quickly answered to regain the lead, but Stratford’s offense wasn’t done. Guzman found the end zone again with just over two minutes left, putting the Spartans in front 32-28.

In a fitting finish to a wild game, Oak Ridge had the final word. Drayton Urbay powered into the end zone with under two minutes to play, lifting the War Eagles to a 35-32 win in an unforgettable opener.
