San Angelo Central – Allen
Let’s get the biggest one out of the way first. This isn’t a deep cut, in fact this is a very obvious pick. However, it’s huge for reasons that people around the state might not realize. It’s the best hope of West Texas, the inarguable most historic region of Texas, against the quintessential team from Dallas with their 6,000 students and 60 million dollar stadium. West Texas has been buzzing all week about their underdog matchups with Dallas teams, but this is the one where the team from out west doesn’t feel like a true underdog. It’s important, very important for the region.
Carthage vs. Henderson
We have a district rivalry renewed in the playoffs, one of many rematches coming our way this weekend. Henderson won the last bout and has been looking nigh unassailable in the playoffs so far, but don’t count out the emotion of a rivalry game and how difficult it is to beat a team twice in a year. Henderson is favored, but not by much.
Iraan vs. Albany
The Braves are looking to bounce Albany en route to a perfect season. They won’t find an easy game here; Albany is definitely not a pushover. In the division where Region I and Region II are essentially playing for the right to attempt to dethrone Bremond, Iraan and Albany have the best chances out of the teams remaining.
Katy vs. Galena Park North Shore
It’s a matchup of state title winners from last year. It’s Katy in the playoffs. It’s a talented Galena Park North Shore team. It’s going to be a fantastic game, one of the hardest games to call this weekend.
Mansfield vs. Cedar Hill
In addition to being a rematch of a very close game from the regular season, we could be potentially staring down the barrel at a DeSoto – Cedar Hill rematch for the Regional Championship. Now that’s a rematch with some potential.
