Waxahachie Routs Midway 44-7 in Dominant Playoff Win

Tom Thumb - DFW's Grocer Since 1948

Waxahachie made a statement Friday night with a commanding 44-7 victory over Midway in the Class 6A Division I bi-district playoffs. The Indians struck quickly, capitalizing on early mistakes by Midway to jump to a 27-0 halftime lead. Sophomore quarterback Jerry Meyer III led the charge with three passing touchdowns, while Kohen Brown added two scores, cementing Waxahachie’s control from start to finish.

Midway struggled offensively, punting on five first-half drives and throwing a costly interception that set up a Waxahachie score. Injuries to key players limited the Panthers’ ability to keep pace, though they avoided a shutout with a late touchdown from Rhalil English. Running back Lathan Whisenton contributed 63 hard-earned yards, but penalties and missed opportunities hurt the Panthers’ chances of mounting any comeback.

Waxahachie advances to face North Forney in the next playoff round, while Midway reflects on a 7-4 season under first-year head coach Joe Gillespie. Despite the loss, Gillespie praised his seniors for their leadership and resilience, emphasizing that their efforts have laid the groundwork for future success. Midway looks to build on this foundation heading into Year 2 of Gillespie’s tenure.
