Weatherford Kangaroos 2026 Season Preview
Weatherford Kangaroos
Head Coach: Marshall Williams (1st season)
Last Season: 1-9; 0-6 in district
Weatherford Key Players and Storylines

They’ll have a fresh slate as Marshall Williams takes over the program following Aubrey Sims’ departure to Alvarado. Williams has previously been a 6A head coach at Keller Timber Creek and most recently served as Lovejoy’s offensive coordinator.
The offense wasn’t the problem last year as the Kangaroos averaged over 29 points per game. They’ll have a chance to be just as good on that side of the ball this year with an experienced backfield. Flamethrower Cutter Kennedy (1,544 passing yards and 11 touchdowns) returns at quarterback, while bell cow DJ Quimby will lead the rushing attack fresh off his 1,482-yard season in 2025. Receiver Jakob Hemphill (1,016 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns) will keep opposing secondaries on their toes, while mammoth tight end Buck Griffith will provide protection up front after earning first team all-district honors last season.
Regular season in the books! Finished with 1482 rushing yards 1700+ Ap yards and 16 touchdowns.
Grateful for my teammates and coaches for putting me in position to make plays all year. Locked in and ready for what’s next! pic.twitter.com/mqCuh1bzR9— Dontarius “DJ” Quimby (@DontariusQuimby) November 11, 2025
Defensively, the Kangaroos have to improve on the 49 points per game they allowed a year ago. Expect defensive end Quinton Martinez and safety Rule Doss to lead the way after both earned second team all-district honors a year ago.
Weatherford learned last year getting into a shootout every week isn’t sustainable. Williams should keep the offense firing on all cylinders with the talent he has at his disposal, so it will likely be up to the defense to make the progresses needed for the Kangaroos to hop back up the District 3-6A standings.
