Despite boasting a 7-1 record heading into a crucial District 8-5A Division II matchup, Whitehouse still found itself as a 24-point underdog last Friday.
The reason?
The Wildcats faced a daunting matchup against Texas High, the number four team in all of 5A Division II.
However, Whitehouse rose to the occasion.
Junior quarterback Josh Green was prolific through the air, finishing with 353 passing yards and four touchdowns. Time and time again, he connected with senior receiver Decarlton Wilson for big plays on the night.
Wilson went on to finish with seven catches for 166 yards and three touchdowns.
Yet, it was Green’s lone touchdown pass not to Wilson that ended up being the most consequential score on the night. With under two minutes to go, Green found Braylen Jackson down the sideline for a 54-yard touchdown bomb to put Whitehouse up 32-27.
Fittingly, Wilson sealed the game on the ensuing possession with an interception to extinguish any hopes of a Tiger comeback.
The 32-27 victory boosts Whitehouse to the top of the district thanks to the tiebreaker the Wildcats now hold over the Tigers.
Whitehouse will now be able to seal the district title if it can knock off Marshall this Thursday in its regular season finale.
