5A Team of the Week: Amarillo Palo Duro Dons
Palo Duro was looking for its first playoff berth since 2014 on Friday when it faced Plainview in a win-or-go-home showdown between the fourth and fifth-placed teams in District 2-5A Division II.
The Dons didn’t disappoint.
Senior running back Kameron Brown led the way with 135 yards rushing, four catches for 86 yards, and four total touchdowns. Quarterback Avery Randle also pitched in with two of those passing touchdowns and a rushing touchdown of his own.
Behind Brown’s big night, Palo Duro had a 35-32 lead late in the fourth quarter, but Plainview had one last chance with the ball at midfield.
However, the Don defense rose to the occasion, breaking up a pass on fourth-and-fifteen to seal a meaningful win for the program in head coach Eric Mims’ second season at the helm.
Palo Duro holds on to beat Plainview 35-32 and earn its first playoff berth since 2014.

Next up for Palo Duro will be a nearly 450-mile road trip this Thursday as it travels to Canutillo for a bi-district showdown.
