3A Team of the Week: Malakoff Tigers
Malakoff and Grandview are very familiar with each other. The two teams have met nine times in the last six seasons.
For the most part, those games have been close. Not on Friday. It was all Tigers as they blew Grandview away 51-21.
Jerrion Hall rushed for 155 yards and two touchdowns on just six carries. He broke free for 54 and 81-yard touchdown runs in the first quarter. Quarterback Mike Jones also added 83 passing yards and a score along with 58 yards and a touchdown on the ground.

However, it wasn’t just the offense. The defense recorded four interceptions. Both Kayland Davis and Jack Hustead had pick-sixes in the second quarter as Malakoff jumped out to a 48-7 halftime lead.
It was quite the statement against a Zebra team that was ranked eighth in 3A Division I. With a win like this, Malakoff appears poised for another deep playoff run this season.
Next up, the Tigers will take on a 4A Salado side that overcame a 34-0 deficit to win its game over Bryan Rudder last week.
