Week Eight 3A Team of the Week: Lone Oak
3A Team of the Week: Lone Oak Buffaloes
Lone Oak has been in the midst of a rebuild during the first two seasons of head coach Logan Turner’s tenure at the school.
Coming into the season, the Buffaloes nursed a district losing streak that predated Turner. The last time Lone Oak had won a district game was back in October 2019.
Yet, this year the Buffaloes have showed some signs of turning the corner with two wins in non-district play following a winless campaign 2022.
And last Friday, a win nearly four years in the making finally came. The Buffaloes snapped their 20-game district losing streak in a 44-41 over Leonard.
Senior running back Austin Jackson was busy throughout the night. He rushed for 233 yards and a touchdown on 41 carries. Quarterback Slayde Parnell also made a number of important plays, finishing with 175 passing yards and four touchdowns. Tre Hubbard caught two of those touchdowns, while Reese Goodwin led the Buffaloes with 67 receiving yards.
Lone Oak is now in position to potentially earn its first playoff berth in five years. The Buffaloes face tough tests against Gunter and Bells the next two weeks before an all-important clash with Howe. A win in that game could be enough to get Lone Oak over the hump and into the postseason.
