6A Team of the Week: Lewisville Fighting Farmers
The 39th Battle of the Axe between Lewisville and Marcus didn’t disappoint.
With the game on the line in overtime, Lewisville pulled out some trickeration. Sophomore Derrick Martin executed the perfect halfback pass floating it to fellow sophomore Landon Bogany in the back of the end zone for the game-winning score in a 27-21 thriller.
Lewisville had looked in control up 14-3 at the half, but Marcus came storming back with 18 unanswered points. The Fighting Farmers never panicked. Aiden Evans had a 59-yard touchdown run midway through the fourth quarter that tied the game and eventually forced overtime. From there, the Fighting Farmer defense stopped Marcus on the first possession of overtime, allowing for Martin’s heroics on the ensuing drive.

“It was a huge win to start district play over our cross-town rivals,” Lewisville head coach Michael Odle said. “It was amazing to see the perseverance our team showed [through] the adversity of a horrific third quarter. We stayed in the fight, came together, and find a way to beat a well-coached and talented Marcus team.”
Tenel Hill never found the end zone for Lewisville, but he was arguably their most consequential offensive player on the night. He finished with 166 yards on 19 carries. Martin added 55 yards and a rushing score on nine carries.
Defensively, linebackers Michael Cooper and Devin Robinson led the Farmer defense with 11 and 10 tackles respectively. Defensive end Rhyan Sewell was a menace up front, finishing with two sacks and four tackles for loss.
With the win, Lewisville improves to 2-2 and 1-0 in district. The Fighting Farmers will now return home this Friday when they host Braswell at 7:00.
