Week Four 3A Team of the Week: Gunter
3A Team of the Week: Gunter Tigers
Gunter put on a clinic in its heavyweight matchup against Brock, the number three team in 3A Division I, last Friday.
Quarterback Walker Overman had yet another big game for the Tigers in a dominant 35-12 victory.
Despite throwing for just 61 yards, he added 149 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. At one point, he exploded from the chaos at the line of scrimmage, racing away from the Brock defense for a 69-yard touchdown.
In the passing game, Overman’s touchdown came on a 20-yard completion to Cole Harpole, while fellow Tiger quarterback Preston Tarpley connected with Jace Martin for a 38-yard score early in the second quarter. Brayden Hinton also added a one-yard rushing touchdown as the Tigers jumped out to a 35-6 halftime lead.

Gunter certainly showed that it could match just about any 3A team in the state. The game was highly physical, but the Tigers kept their 3A Division I opponents contained throughout. They showed they have what it takes to be playing deep into December again this season.
Coming up this week, Gunter will host Gladewater on Friday in its final non-district game of the year.
