2A Team of the Week: Santo Wildcats
Santo and Muenster squared off in a big 8-2A Division II district opener between two of the favorites for the district title.
It didn’t disappoint.
Muenster held a 17-7 lead early in the fourth quarter, but it was the Santo ground game that stole the show down the stretch.
Quarterback Hutson Thornton scored a 37-yard rushing touchdown to cut the deficit to 17-14 with nine minutes to go before Jaime Sandoval broke free down the sideline for a 41-yard touchdown with just over three minutes left (highlight below) to give Santo the lead for good.
Santo linebacker Jacob Farquhar then game up with the game-sealing interception on the ensuing Muenster drive to cap off a dominant fourth quarter by the Wildcats.
Santo finished with 291 rushing yards in its flexbone rushing attack led by Thornton (200 yards) and Sandoval (66 yards).
The Wildcats will look to remain undefeated when they travel to Chico this Friday.
