However, the game wasn’t done. Pleasanton drove it into Jourdanton territory, but the Indian defense held strong, securing a memorable victory. According to the Pleasanton Express, Jourdanton only led for those final 49 seconds.
“I was very proud of our response to adversity,” Jourdanton head coach Darrell Andrus said. “We played hard & believed for four quarters and it paid off.
What a great win for the program, and I look forward to seeing what this team can accomplish if we can keep improving.”
The Jourdanton run game was clicking for much of the night. Running back Kye Schorsch had 153 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries. Ponton also added 81 yards and three scores on 17 carries.
Through the air, Ponton had 201 yards and a touchdown. Luke Vyvlecka led Jourdanton’s receivers with 59 yards, thanks in large part to a 55-yard reception. Shane Andrus had the Indians’ lone touchdown catch. He finished with five receptions for 41 yards.
Linebacker Bryce Andrus paced the defense with 11 total tackles.
A year ago, Jourdanton finished undefeated regular season. After losing their first two games this season, this was a big win to begin building some momentum ahead of district play. The Indians still have a month until their district opener at home against San Antonio Cole on October 18th.
They’ll continue to prepare for that date with a visit from Somerset this Friday at 7:00.
