Liberty-Eylau at Texas High
This game features two 0-2 schools from Texarkana, but don’t let the records fool you these
teams are good. Liberty-Eylau is probably the best 0-2 team in the state hands down. The Leopards have lost both games by a total of 11 points to Gilmer and Carthage.
Texas High is still playing with heavy hearts, after SMU commit Leonard Parks passed away in his sleep the Saturday following the Tigers first game of the season. Last week, Texas High lost a hard fought battle with rival Arkansas High 7-0.
Last Meeting (2016): Texas High 48, Liberty-Eylau 37
Carthage at Whitehouse
Carthage hasn’t skipped a beat since winning their 5th State Championship since 2008 last
season. The Bulldogs are 2-0 and have scored 97 points and allowed 45 points in those games. Whitehouse is 2-0 also and the Wildcats have averaged 27 points per game in their victories. Carthage will be the toughest team that Whitehouse has faced so far this season and the Wildcats defense better be ready to contain the Ingrams from Carthage.
Last Meeting (2016): Carthage 23, Whitehouse 13
Alto at Arp
Alto is coming into this game with a 1-1 record and a 21 point victory over Big Sandy last week.
Arp is currently 0-2 falling to Tatum and Hughes Springs. Arp has played well on defense, but the Tigers offense has struggled to put points on the board this season.
Alto has put up 95 points on offense in their 2 games, but the defense has also given up 75 points. Arp will need get the kinks worked out of their offense quick and their defense led by UT commit DeMarvion Overshown will need to slow down the Alto offensive attack.
Last Meeting (2016):Arp 27, Alto 7
San Augustine at Groveton
The Wolves of San Augustine have ran their way to a 2-0 record. Groveton has only played one
game this season, but the Indians were victorious as they beat Grapeland 33-12. The defense from Groveton will need another stellar performance this week in order to stop the San Augustine rushing attack. San Augustine has scored 62 points this season and only given up 22.
Last Meeting (2016):San Augustine 58, Groveton 54
John Tyler at Lufkin
The CUJO and Pack will face off in a highly anticipated game in the Piney Woods. John
Tyler is on a roll this season and the experience from last season’s young team is paying off in 2017. The Lions are averaging 453 yards of offense and 38 points per game.
Lufkin is 1-1 on the season and responded well last week with a 45-28 victory over Nacogdoches, after dropping the season opener to rival Longview 35-16. The Pack will have their hands full on defense with the Lions running game and will need to match them score for score if they plan on coming away with the victory.
Last Meeting (2016): John Tyler 50, Lufkin 49
