3A Team of the Week: Life Oak Cliff Lions
Life Oak Cliff looks like it has found itself a stud at quarterback. Freshman Camren Phillips had his shining moment, leading the Lions on a game-winning 85-yard drive in the closing moments against 4A side North Dallas.
With just 42 seconds left, Phillips found fellow freshman Dana Edwards II streaking free in the end zone for the go-ahead 30-yard touchdown. The Lion defense would hold from there for a huge 30-28 victory.

It was a win that excites Life Oak Cliff head coach Welton Johnson about the group he has this year.
“It shows that we are moving in the right direction as a program,” Johnson said. “To see our guys fight until the end and find a way to win was big for our program. It’s our first 2-0 start in over 5 years.”
Not only did Phillips come in clutch in the final minutes, he also broke a school record with 382 passing yards on Thursday night. The Lions also had a couple of other standout freshmen offensively. Receiver Damarion Mays had seven catches for 147 yards and a touchdown, while running back Jatavion Smith-Adams had 11 catches for 120 yards and a score while adding another 78 yards on the ground.
Defensively, junior linebacker Kederek Wilson finished with 11 tackles.
The past two seasons, the Lions have won just three games total. They’ll have a chance to match that win total just three games in this Friday when they host Cedar Hill TLC.
