Westlake Claims “Battle of the Lakes” for Fifth Straight Win

In the latest edition of the “Battle of the Lakes”, Westlake defeated Lake Travis for the fifth consecutive meeting.

The Chaps claimed a 28-16 victory through a strong defensive effort that saw four turnovers, including three interceptions on Cavaliers quarterback Chaston Ditta.

Despite running 30 more plays than their opponent and 200 yards of offense more than Westlake, Lake Travis suffered from too many errors on offense and special teams to break the Chaps winning streak; the Cavs haven’t beaten their rival since 2019. The defeat marked LT’s first loss this season.

Westlake struck first early, opening the contest with a 77-yard scoring drive emphasized by quarterback Rees Wise 4-yard rushing score. The Chaps again found the end zone early in the second quarter, when Wise found Cal Livengood for the 25-yard scoring pass.

Yet, by the start of the second half, Lake Travis wasn’t ready to throw in the towel.

A time consuming drive resulted in a 3-yard passing TD to Carter Buck, followed by a forced punt. Yet, anytime the Cavs built momentum, a costly turnover would suck the life out of their vibe.

Following the punt, Brandon Clark returned Westlake’s third interception of the night, racing it to the opposite end of the field for a 54-yard pick six.

The Cavs answered with an 18-yard touchdown early in the fourth, but the Chaps cemented their win a few minutes later, with Cal Livengood’s 80-yard punt return to the end zone, ensured by an Eli Clark massive block on the sidelines during the run.

Lake Travis looks to bounce back next Friday against Akins, who still hasn’t claimed a district victory this year. Westlake will try for their sixth straight when they host Del Valle next week.
