Westlake entered Week 2 at 1-0 after rallying past Inglewood, California, 33-26 in its season opener, while Euless Trinity also came in unbeaten after defeating Berkner 28-17.
Westlake grabbed control early and took a 14-3 lead into halftime. Quarterback Patton Jones finished with 165 passing yards and three touchdowns, including two scores to Rhett Jenkins, who caught five passes for 55 yards. Nash Chapman added another touchdown reception, while C.J. Jones scored on the ground.
The Chaparrals were even better defensively. Westlake’s starting defense allowed just three points and 111 total yards, holding Trinity to only 31 passing yards. Abe Eppes and Henry Bandy combined for three sacks as the Chaps consistently kept the Trojans behind schedule. Special teams added another score when Chase Brodhead returned a blocked punt four yards for a touchdown.
Westlake outscored Trinity 21-7 after halftime to finish off the 35-10 win and improve to 2-0. The Trojans dropped to 1-1 after struggling to generate consistent offense against the Westlake front.
Westlake travels to Prosper next week for its first road game of the season, while Euless Trinity will look to bounce back when it hosts Aledo.
