Westlake showed no mercy Thursday night at Burger Stadium, rolling past Akins 66-0 in their district opener. The Chaparrals exploded to a 52-0 halftime lead, fueled by defensive stops and a balanced ground attack.
Hayes Brodhead set the tone with a pick-six in the first quarter, while Jarren Lopez, Braden Riddell, and Sebastian Henault each found the end zone on the ground. Lawson Grimes added a highlight 27-yard touchdown grab before halftime, his first of the season.
The Chaps capped the shutout in style when Brady Jones blocked a field goal attempt and Freddie Tester returned it 80 yards for his first varsity touchdown.
The win lifted Westlake to 4-1 while marking their ninth consecutive victory over Akins. The Eagles fell to 4-2 with the loss. Both teams face Austin High in their next district matchup.
