On September 22nd, 2023, The Lake Travis Cavaliers played against The Austin Westlake Chaparrals, otherwise known as The Battle of The Lakes. This was an anticipated showdown these two teams are not just the best in Austin but in all of Texas high school football.
The Chapparals started with the ball within 10 plays. quarterback #7 Paxton Land rushed in for an 18-yard touchdown. Lake Travis trying to find their stride, but both teams were making it difficult to put points on the board. However, two minutes into the 2nd quarter, Lake Travis drove the ball down to the 1-yard line, and running back #1 Nico Hamilton rushed in for a touchdown. The 2nd quarter ended with a field by The Chapparals with a score of 10-7 by half.
In the 3rd quarter, the Cavaliers received the kickoff, but could not score and had to punt the ball back to The Chaparrals. Running back #33 Jack Kayser was able to make the perfect hole and ran a 40-yard touchdown. The Chapparals ended the 3rd quarter with another field goal, making the score 20-7 before the last quarter.
4th quarter, Lake Travis fought to get in the lead quarterback #12 Kadyn Leon threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to #35 Josiah Thomas. For the last couple of minutes, it was a standstill game, with neither team able to score. The final score of the game was 20-14 with The Austin Westlake Chapparals continuing their win streak.
