Westlake made sure senior night at Chaparral Stadium was one to remember, storming past Austin High 58-14 in a dominant showing Thursday night.
The Chaps built a 42-7 halftime lead and never looked back, clicking in all three phases of the game. Head coach Tony Salazar called it “a complete victory” as Westlake improved to 5-1 on the season and 2-0 in district play.
After Austin’s lone first-half highlight—a pick-six by Jayson Martinez—Westlake immediately answered. Quarterback Rees Wise connected with receiver Jack Newhouse for a 54-yard touchdown that swung the momentum back for good.
The Chaps’ defense and special teams stole the show in the second half. A safety set up a 76-yard kick return touchdown from Rhett Jenkins, sealing the lopsided win before Austin added a late score.
Westlake now turns its attention to Bowie next week before a much-anticipated rivalry matchup with Lake Travis on October 24.
