Where in the world is Zach Evans? North Shore star RB silent while others make early commitments

The novel COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic has put a halt to a lot of things: spring practices, 7-on-7 football, spring sports, official visits, and even graduation but one thing that it virus hasn’t been able to stop is the verbal commitments coming the 2021 recruiting class.

With so many juniors taking to social media to announce what school out of their sometimes long list of offers has won their eye, it might bring you to wonder- what ever happened to Galena North Shore’s Zach Evans?

The former national No. 1 in the running back position rankings fell out of the top spot and was replaced by Arizona native and Texas commit Bijan Robinson. Evans has had a rollercoaster of a press trail over the 2019 season.

While posting a 1,600 rushing-yard season in 2019, the All-American Game MVP hasn’t opened up about where he would be committing for the Fall. During the early signing period, Evans signed with Georgia. On January 7th- just five days after the All-American Game where he was supposed to announce his commitment- Evans was released from his Letter of Intent and SEC financial aid agreement to Georgia.

Between the time that he signed and the time that he was released, Evans faced a myriad of twists and turns. The five-star athlete was sent home from the state title game after violating team rules, told reporters he signed with a team and would enroll early, declared he would announce his commitment after the All-American Game, decided not to announce his commitment in an interview the morning of the All-American Game and finally said he won’t rush his decision around National Signing Day.

Aside from the occasional retweet on Twitter, occasional post to his Instagram story and randomly “going live” with no news on Instagram, there hasn’t been much out of Zach Evans. In February, the only two uncommitted/unsigned prospects left in the 2020 Top 100 recruiting class were Evans and Alfred Collins; Collins ended up signing with Texas, but still nothing from Evans.

This curious case begs the question: what in the world happened to Zach Evans?
