It was a beautiful night in Conroe Friday, as first place in District 13-6A was between the Willis Wildkats (7-0, 5-0) and the Conroe Tigers (6-0, 4-0). Willis came in with one of the top offenses in the state, averaging almost 500 yards and scoring 53 points per game through their first seven games. Conversely, Conroe’s defense is the backbone of their team, giving up only 12.5 points per game, which has helped them match their win total from last season. It was a battle of styles, as the winner would take over solo first place in the district, while the loser would drop back into a tie for second with The Woodlands.
Game Recap
It did not take long for the Willis offense to get rolling. On the game’s third play, Terri Lawrence III took the handoff through the line and stormed away for a 56-yard touchdown. Following a Conroe punt, Willis found the endzone again, this time Jack Emerson connected with Jermaine Bishop Jr deep over the middle for a 35-yard touchdown. After Bishop picked off a Conroe pass on the next Tiger possession, Emerson would reward him with another touchdown, this time a screen pass that Bishop would take 14 yards into the endzone. With 2:20 left in the first quarter, Willis was up 21-0.
Conroe would get on the board on their next possession, using a nine-play drive, punctuated with a one-yard touchdown run by Dramekco Green. That cut the deficit to 21-7, but would end up being the only time the Tigers found the endzone for the entire game.
Willis kept throwing haymakers on offense. On the next Wildkat drive, Emerson found Daylion Robinson over the middle, who took it 33 yards for the touchdown. After exchanging a few punts, Emerson would throw another touchdown, this time a 62-yard strike down the left sideline to Romel Stevens. Conroe got the ball one last time in the half, but pressure on the quarterback forced an errant pass that would find Daylion Robinson’s hands, and he would return it all the way to the endzone for a touchdown with five seconds remaining in the half. Willis led 42-7 at halftime.
Following a Conroe punt to open the second half, Willis added more points to the board as Daylion Robinson powered in from 5 yards out for his third touchdown of the game. A few drives later, Conroe lined up to punt again, but it was blocked, and returned to the house by Kendrick Evans. A late touchdown run by Tyler Andrade would put Willis up 63-7, which would be the final.
Willis takes complete control of District 13-6A with a 63-7 win.
