Willis Key Players and Storylines

Willis has featured several high-level players on its roster the past couple seasons. Fresh off the first state quarterfinal appearance in program history, this year will be no different.

The Wildkats have a veteran defense with eight returning starters on that side of the ball.

The front seven is not to be messed with. Linebacker Cayden Williams (150 tackles, 22 TFLs) tackled everything in sight a year ago, while defensive end Waylan Nolen (106 tackles, 21 TFLs), the younger brother of NFL defensive lineman Walter Nolen, is the “anchor” of Willis’ defensive line. Behind them, cornerback J’Lynnd Kellow (46 tackles) is a lockdown cornerback who also has the attention of several Power Four programs. He’s joined in what will be a strong secondary by safety Amajai Friend (97 tackles, 14 TFLs), who’s not afraid to come down and make a tackle.

Offensively, quarterback Lincoln Frazier set the world on fire with 4,200 passing yards and 43 touchdowns as a freshman last year. The sky is the limit for him especially with St. Pius transfer Trey Finney (720 receiving yards and eight touchdowns) joining the receiving room alongside Preston Stephenson, who made an impact at The Woodlands as a sophomore in 2024 with 222 receiving yards.

There’s work to do on the offensive line, but this Willis team has a chance to be special again. Head coach Trent Miller and company are aiming to secure their third district title in four years before making a run at a state title, a goal that seems increasingly obtainable with each passing year.
