Willis Wilkats vs Desoto Eagles Preview
Round 3 of The Texas high school football playoffs is upon us! On Friday, November 24th, 2023, The Willis Wildkats vs The Desoto Eagles will take place at the Alamodome in San Antonio, TX. These are two of the best teams in the state, and both are undefeated, which means one of these teams will suffer 1st and final loss of the season.
Desoto Eagles
Desoto has a versatile offense, distributing the ball for runs and pass plays. Desoto’s quarterback #5, Darius Bailey, is a natural quarterback. He has complete faith in his arm and his offensive line. One of his best offensive linemen is #79 David Russell, a 6’10 offensive tackle who has the power and mobility to tackle a scary threat upfront. Running back #27 Marvin Duffey is a strong and consistent runner who fights for every single yard. He has the most rushing yards with 1,206 and 19 total touchdowns. Darius’ favorite wide receiver is #13 Daylon Singleton. Daylon is undoubtedly the fastest player on Desoto’s roster, and no one can cover him or even catch up to him. Daylon currently has 950 reception yards and 14 touchdowns.
Willis Wildkats
The majority of Willis’ success this season is due to their quarterback #2, DJ Lagway. DJ is the best quarterback in the nation. His stats in twelve games are 266/360 passes completed, 4,270 passing yards, 71 total touchdowns, 15 on the ground, and 56 in the air. DJ is also the leading rusher on his team, and the kid is a beast. #7 Jermaine Bishop is a superb athlete, just in his sophomore season. He can run or catch, and when he totes the rock, there is no stopping him. Jermaine’s stats in twelve games as a wide receiver were 77 receptions, 1,410 reception yards with 17 reception touchdowns, and as a running back, 23 carries, 372 rushing yards with 7 rushing touchdowns. With Jermaine’s 1 kickoff return touchdown, he has 25 total touchdowns currently this season.
Conclusion
In my opinion, I believe this is the best matchup this week. Although Desoto is the top-ranked team in Texas, Willis has a great chance against them since Desoto’s defense struggles against passing teams, and DJ Lagway will fly that ball out the whole game. I’m looking forward to witnessing this matchup.
