Coming into the game Friday night with Humble-Atascocita, the Allen Eagles were winners of 122 straight home games. Not anymore.
Allen’s Home Winning Streak Snapped
That streak was squashed in head coach Chad Morris’s second game. The Atascocita Eagles flew in with their talons’ outs and defeated Allen 41-20.
Allen suffered their first home loss in forever. The loss also ended a 54-game winning streak at Allen Eagle Stadium, the $60 million edifice that was built in 2012 and puts some college stadiums to shame.
The loss also ends an 84-game regular-season winning streak for Allen, which was the longest active streak in the Lone Star state, ahead of only Denton Ryan’s 60. Ryan’s streak also came to a screeching halt Friday night.
It is Allen’s first home loss in 11 years and their first regular-season loss in nine years.
Atascocita Laid Down Some Offensive Firepower
The win avenges last season’s 52-27 loss to Allen. QB Gavin Session and WR Chase Sowell both had outstanding games.
Session was phenomenal, going 16 of 28 for 300 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception. Session also rushed for 117 yards and a score, giving him 417 total yards of offense and five total touchdowns.
Sowell had six catches for 174 yards and three scores in the win.
Ja’Marri Green added 89 yards on the ground, while Tyras Winfield gained 88 yards and a score. Keith Wheeler made a game-clinching interception to secure the win for Atascocita.
A Season-Defining Win
A win like this for Atascocita is season-defining for them as they seek to make a deep playoff run since reaching the State Semifinals back in 2016.
Allen made it to the third round of the playoffs in 2020, losing to Euless Trinity 49-45.
Coach Morris will have this team ready to learn from their mistakes, and ready to play going forward. They will be a familiar face come playoff time, contending for a state championship.
Allen falls to 1-1 and hosts Cedar Hill next week, while Humble-Atascocita improves to 2-0 and travels to play Klein Oak.
