“If you are good enough they will find you.”
That’s a phrase that you still hear from older coaches and parents about the recruiting process.
It’s also 100% false.
The truth is, if you are an exceptionally talent, a clear Division I Power Five FBS prospect then usually someone that those colleges trust will tell those top programs about you and give them the heads up. Even that doesn’t always happen, at least not in a timely manner.
Consider the story of former Florida linebacker Alex Anzalone, projected to go in rounds 3-5 of the upcoming NFL Draft.
Anzalone was a skinny RB/CB as a sophomore before blossoming into a 6’3” 220lb stud as a junior RB/LB. Even so, coming from a small high school, he had little to no interest from any Division I colleges as of January of his junior year of high school.
That’s when he decided to take matters into his own hands and make sure that every college he could possibly be interested in had his video and information, including transcripts and contact information.
He wanted to make sure that every college got it and also wanted to know exactly when they checked him out, so he sent the video and profile online via GoBigRecruiting.com. That was early January.
By the end of February, he had offers from pretty much any school you can think of, from USC and Ohio State to Notre Dame and Alabama. It happened that fast once everybody saw his video and transcript.
Now, not every player is as talented as Anzalone was (and still is) and would get all of those offers like that, but that’s not the point. The point is that Anzalone stopped waiting and hoping that colleges would “find” him at his small high school and decided to take matters into his own hands.
And he didn’t just send out random video links to coaches in an email or on Twitter, he used GoBigRecruiting.com because he wanted to know for sure that each college got it and, more importantly, exactly when they watched it. That way he no longer had to wonder whether or not they knew about him or had checked him out.
Four years later, and he’s set to have his dream of being drafted in the NFL come true next month.
Would he have gotten all those offers without using a service like GoBigRecruiting.com? Possibly, but it hadn’t happened up until that point, and at a minimum would have taken a lot longer and delayed his process significantly.
There is no way to really know.
What we do know is that he did use GoBigRecruiting.com and his life changed forever.
