One of the best pass rushers in the NFL has decided to call it a career. Former Dallas Cowboys outside linebacker DeMarcus Ware took to Twitter to announce his retirement.

Ware had spent the last three seasons with the Denver Broncos and was part of the stout defense that helped Denver win Super Bowl 50. Prior to his time in the Mile High City, Ware spent nine seasons with the Cowboys anchoring the defensive line.

As the 20th overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft, Ware emerged right away as an impact defensive player, tying for the team lead in sacks in his rookie season. He would end up in the defensive backfield quite a bit during his career, finishing with 138.5 sacks over 12 seasons and becoming the Cowboys’ all-time sacks leader in 2013.

Ware was also a nine-time Pro Bowl selection, a four-time first team All Pro selection and was named Defensive Player of the Year in 2008, a year which he recorded 20 sacks.

According to reports, Ware still had interest from teams as a free agent. However, in his announcement, Ware said that “long term healthy and quality of life outweigh the spark and passion to play that I once had.”
